Kuching among Asia’s cheapest summer destinations

Kuching is back on top as Malaysia’s most affordable getaway, according to digital travel platform Agoda’s latest list of budget-friendly summer destinations for the June to August 2025 period. With an average nightly room rate of RM227.64, the Sarawakian capital reclaims its spot from Kuala Terengganu, which briefly held the title for April to May 2025.

Regionally, Surabaya, Indonesia, leads the list as Asia’s most affordable summer destination, with room rates averaging just RM150.33 per night. Close behind are Tirupati, India (RM158.92), and Hat Yai, Thailand (RM167.51), rounding out the top three.

Fabian Teja, Country Director for Malaysia and Brunei at Agoda, shared, “Agoda’s data reveals a wide variety of travel options across Asia this summer. The Cheapest Summer Destinations ranking is based on average room rates in the ten most popular destinations across nine Asian markets, highlighting the most wallet-friendly options for summer travelers.
