Shopee Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing online safety and consumer awareness, in line with growing participation in the country’s digital economy.
The e-commerce platform said continuous education is crucial in helping consumers recognise scam tactics, safeguard personal data and conduct transactions through secure and trusted channels.
Shopee recently showcased its initiatives during the National Consumer Day 2026 programme organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), which was officiated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
At the event, Shopee engaged with the public through exhibitions and sharing sessions focusing on scam awareness and safe online shopping practices.
Among the key advice highlighted were identifying suspicious links, avoiding dealings outside official platforms, being cautious of impersonation attempts, and refraining from disclosing sensitive information such as one-time passwords (OTP) and banking details.
Shopee also encouraged users to report suspicious activities through official customer service channels and remain vigilant against scams involving urgency tactics or requests for off-platform payments.
Head of External Affairs (Malaysia) at Shopee, Nik Emir Din, said online safety requires collective responsibility involving government, industry players and consumers.
“Consumer education plays a vital role in strengthening confidence in the digital economy. We will continue supporting initiatives that help users stay informed and protected,” he said.
The platform also took the opportunity to educate users on how legitimate affiliate links function within its ecosystem, emphasising the importance of engaging only through authorised channels.
Meanwhile, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, who visited Shopee’s exhibition booth, underscored the importance of consumer awareness as a key defence against online scams.
He said KPDN would continue to encourage collaboration among stakeholders to foster a safer digital commerce environment.
Shopee added it will maintain close cooperation with government agencies and industry partners to further strengthen trust and resilience in Malaysia’s digital landscape.
