Taobao Malaysia joins forces with Foodie Media, W Talent to boost creator business

Taobao Malaysia, the e-commerce platform under Alibaba Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Good Foodie Media Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Foodie Media Bhd, and W Talent Academy Sdn Bhd to boost Malaysia’s growing creator-commerce ecosystem.

The partnership aims to expand participation in the Taobao Affiliate Programme, which enables local creators and consumers to earn income by producing and sharing content that promotes Taobao products. The collaboration also seeks to encourage cross-border e-commerce through short-form videos and livestreaming.

Taobao Malaysia Country Head Jess Lew said the partnership reflects the company’s long-term commitment to nurturing the local digital creator community while enhancing the shopping experience for Malaysian consumers.

“The creator economy continues to offer tremendous opportunities, especially as Malaysians increasingly rely on social content and livestreaming for product discovery,” she said. “Through the Taobao Affiliate Programme, creators, micro-influencers and even everyday shoppers can monetise their content while helping others shop with confidence.”

Lew said Taobao Malaysia plans to onboard more than 200 creators under the collaboration, who will receive support to produce engaging content and host livestreams that feature trending products and authentic storytelling. Key categories expected to drive engagement include apparel, home and living, sports, toys and collectibles, as well as furniture.

Foodie Media chief executive officer Nicholas Lim Pinn Yang said the partnership will provide a structured pathway for more creators to join the affiliate programme.

“With our network of content creators and experience in digital campaigns, Foodie Media will support Taobao Malaysia by offering content strategies and market insights to participants,” he said.

Meanwhile, W Talent director Lim Yeong Shen said the agency looks forward to equipping Malaysian talents with the skills and tools to succeed in livestreaming and social commerce.

The Taobao Affiliate Programme offers participants up to 30 per cent commission per product, referral bonuses of up to RM26 per new user, and additional incentives during major sales campaigns such as 11.11 and 12.12.
