MIHAS@Shanghai 2025 exceeds expectations with record-breaking RM3.2 billion in sales

The Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS@Shanghai) 2025 has ended on a high note, surpassing its target with an outstanding RM3.2 billion in total sales.

The six-day event, which saw more than 1,000 business meetings and the signing of 16 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) worth RM922.5 million, exceeded the RM3 billion goal set by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, during the opening ceremony.

The remarkable success of MIHAS@Shanghai 2025 further solidifies Malaysia’s status as a global leader in the Halal economy. The event was hailed as a key milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to expand its Halal sector internationally.

The record sales not only highlight the quality of Malaysia’s Halal products but also reflect the growing trust and recognition of the nation’s Halal ecosystem on the global stage.

In addition to showcasing Malaysia’s leadership in Halal, MIHAS@Shanghai 2025 served as a vital platform for strengthening Malaysia-China trade relations, with China being Malaysia’s largest trading partner.

The event marked a significant step forward in promoting the export of Halal products, particularly benefiting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by providing them with opportunities to connect with international buyers.

A standout feature of MIHAS@Shanghai was the International Sourcing Programme (INSP), which facilitated over 100 targeted business matchings with international buyers from regions such as China, Australia, Brazil, Hong Kong, India, Mauritius, Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. This programme provided Malaysian exporters with direct access to key importers and strategic partners, particularly in East Asia.

The event also built on the existing collaboration between MATRADE and the China International Import Expo (CIIE) Bureau, following the signing of an MoU earlier this year. This partnership aims to enhance the visibility of Malaysian products in China and streamline trade facilitation efforts.

As Malaysia continues to strengthen its Halal industry under the Halal Industry Master Plan 2030 (HIMP 2030) and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, MIHAS@Shanghai serves as a vital milestone in the country’s Halal export mission.

The recent ASEAN Leaders’ Summit and ASEAN Economic Ministers’ Meeting further advanced regional economic integration, particularly through the upgrading of the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA) and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) 3.0. These developments are expected to expand market access and foster greater collaboration in emerging sectors such as the green and digital economies.

The success of MIHAS@Shanghai 2025 follows the achievements of MIHAS@Dubai 2024, which generated RM2.2 billion in trade. These two global showcases exemplify Malaysia’s ‘Halal Diplomacy’, leveraging the country’s Halal leadership to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth through international collaboration.
