Futura Connectiva KL

Futura Connectiva KL opens today at REXKL, introducing Malaysian audiences and industry partners to one of Indonesia’s most dynamic creative sectors: its rapidly expanding comic, animation, and character-IP ecosystem.

Running from 12 – 14 December 2025, the programme marks the first collective presentation of contemporary Indonesian IP creators in Malaysia.

Supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI Kuala Lumpur) under its Gebyar Nusantara initiative and DISPAREKRAF DKI Jakarta, the event reflects Jakarta’s broader creative- economy push as the city advances its roadmap toward becoming a Global City.

Futura Connectiva KL brings 14 Indonesian creators to Kuala Lumpur for business matching, public talks, and an immersive exhibition – all designed to strengthen industry ties and open new collaboration pathways between both nations.

Among the featured IPs are some of Indonesia’s most recognisable names: Tahilalats, the webcomic phenomenon; Si Juki, a cultural icon with multiple media spinoffs; Milk & Mocha Bear, a globally loved kawaii brand; Bandits of Batavia, soon to be adapted into a feature film; and Janisaris, a best-selling historical-fantasy series – alongside emerging creators shaping Indonesia’s next wave of visual storytelling.

Immersive exhibition (12th – 14th December 2025)

REXKL’s theatre space transforms into a multi-sensory digital showcase where Indonesian comics and character worlds unfold across large-scale projections and animated displays. Admission is free.

Business matching & opening ceremony (12th December 2025)

The programme opens with a day of business engagement (9:00 AM – 5:00 PM), connecting Indonesian creators with Malaysian publishers, animation studios, licensors, and creative companies.

Public talks (13th December 2025)

Saturday features talks by leading creators and studios, including Faza Meonk (Si Juki), TAMPAR Animation Studio, CARAVAN Studio, MilkMochaBear, Tahilalats, and Wahyu Aditya (Cican, Hellomotion). Sessions explore character-IP development, comic-to-animation adaptation, worldbuilding, international publishing, and regional creative exchange.

Strengthening regional collaboration

As Southeast Asia’s creative industries increasingly cross borders through digital publishing, licensing, and co-production, Futura Connectiva KL offers a focused platform to connect both ecosystems – inviting Malaysian creators, companies, and audiences to engage directly with Jakarta’s growing IP landscape.
